Midweek@Highlands

Midweek @ Highlands continues in the Spring – see course info below!

The study of the Scriptures is at the center of everything we do here at Highlands. That said, the primary vehicle by which we pursue the value of Teaching is our Wednesday gathering called “Midweek at Highlands.”

We gather as a church family every Wednesday night every fall from August through November, then again in the winter and spring from January through April, to connect with one another in fellowship and to grow deep together through the study and application of the Bible.

Programs for Jr. High and Sr. High students begin at 6 pm, with programs for children beginning at 6:15 pm. The adult worship and teaching time begins at 6:30 pm and all programs conclude at 7:30 pm.  A nursery is provided from 6 – 7:30 pm.

New Wednesday Evening Studies Begin January 11th

Cultural Hot Potatoes: Handling the Hard Stuff of Life

“Why is there so much suffering when God tells us He loves us?” “Why is Christianity so exclusive?” “How do we deal with gender roles and choices?” “If God is sovereign, do human beings still have free will?” These are just a few of the “hot potatoes” getting tossed around in our culture today.  Christians are often the ones doing the tossing!  We are not sure how to answer our neighbor’s good, hard questions or our own. Join Brad Mercer and Lee Hutchings as they seek to address these questions (and more!) from a biblical perspective.  Each session will feature a time of teaching followed by a Q&A and discussion led by Brad and Lee.  Join us in Room 301 as we discuss difficult truths in an open, grace-oriented context for the purpose of taking every thought and action captive for the glory of Jesus Christ.

And Grace Will Lead Me Home: A Study of the Book of Ruth

The book of Ruth is an amazing journey of people who ran away from God – and how He led them back home.  Sometimes we all run away.  Come learn about the period of Biblical history called the “Judges” and learn how God’s grace can again lead you home too.  This study is for all who need real encouragement from the gospel of grace (and want to learn from the Old Testament too)! Taught by Joseph Wheat in Room 210.

Just Tell Me What to Do – How to Parent Your Teenager through Tough Issues.

Anyone who has ever been around teenagers (or has been one themselves) knows that this can be a challenging and tumultuous time.  The key in parenting is not to see the teenage years merely as a time to survive but as a time to thrive.  Do you feel like you don’t know what you are doing when it comes to parenting your teenager? Then join us as we look at some of the challenging areas of parenting teenagers and how to deal with them biblically.  Topics will include: How to talk to your teen about sex; Is pornography really that big of a deal; I think my child is lying to me – what do I do?; and other hot topics. Taught by Wilson Shirley in Room 211.

Christian, What Do You Believe?

Come explore the heresies, heretics and the history of the Early Church, as the forces of empires and theological controversies clarified our understanding of God, Christ, and Man. Covering the first 500 years of Church History we will study the foundational creeds continuously confessed by every orthodox Christian church. Come join us for six weeks and discover what Christians have always confessed when asked, “Christian, What do you believe?” Taught by Josh Drake in Room 212
