Benevolence at Highlands

Benevolence at Highlands Presbyterian identifying and meeting the  Church is defined as needs of individuals who cannot meet the need themselves.  The most common requests are for food, utilities, rent, medical expenses, and transportation.  While some churches and ministries attempt to assist individuals in all of these areas, many have made a  decision to focus on one or two areas of assistance and network with other churches and agencies for the others.  Also, some churches provide assistance to a broad area (state wide or a city’s metro area), while others limit assistance to a county or local area.

At Highlands, our board of Deacons has adopted a policy to provide assistance in two specific areas, food and transportation on a once per year basis.   The board has also made a decision only to focus on  the Madison County area.   Any exceptions to these policies must be approved by the Benevolence committee of the Diaconate.

Individuals seeking assistance must come to the church office, complete a brief  application form, and meet with the church administrator.  An identifying document, such as a driver’s license, will be required of the applicant.  If the need can be met, a certificate for food/gas will be issued to the applicant.

Each individual seeking assistance is  given this brochure highlighting the benevolence policy and listing resources for other types of  assistance in the area.
