Women's Ministry
Every person needs a few people in their lives who are farther along the path than they are…people who can offer the wisdom of experience and the broader perspective gained by it. At the same time, we also need people who are not as far along the path as we are, people who can profit from our experience and who force us to learn from it so that we can be of help to them when they ask. In our increasingly disconnected world, the presence of vertical relationships in our church experience brings richness to life that cannot be found when we solely relate to our peers.
We believe that one of the best venues to see this take place is Women’s Ministry. Single-gender ministries allow people to interact at one of our most fundamental levels of identity, thus removing many of the barriers that hinder interaction between them in other settings. When we connect as women with women, good things happen.
So then, what is the mission of Women’s Ministry in its strategic, supportive role among the ministries of Nurture at Highlands?
Simply this: to offer times of fellowship, learning, and service to the female population of the church so that each woman has regular opportunities to develop relationships with women of varying ages and seasons of life.
Sisterhood is experienced in times of fellowship and fun offered throughout the year, but especially so at the annual Highlands’ Ladies Retreat in January. There are also evening events planned throughout the year that bring us together for delicious meals, great speakers and warm fellowship.
Study is a second objective the Women’s Ministry, and opportunities to learn and grow together abound. Bible studies are offered both mornings and evenings on topics of particular interest to women. Special large group teaching times are offered once a month during the summer as well. A nursery is provided for classes meeting on the church campus on Wednesday mornings. Service is the third element of Women’s Ministry, and many opportunities exist for women to use their gifts in service to one another, the church, and the world. Aside from the many co-ed Servant Teams of Highlands, there are several that are made up only of Women. To see a list of the Servant Teams on which women serve, click here.
