Highlands has been blessed and thankful to have Dr. Guy Waters with us for Midweek these past several weeks. He will conclude his study, The Life and Writings of the Apostle John, on Wednesday, September 23. Beginning September 30 and continuing through November 11, we will begin our second six-week session of Adult Electives, with classes meeting Wednesday evenings at 6:00 pm. Please note that there will be no Midweek on October 7 due to Fall Break. Classes are listed below, including a special six-week class for men and women: C.S. Lewis: An Introduction to His Life and Writings, taught by Brad Mercer. We hope you’ll join us for this next session as we continue growing together in God’s Word and enjoying fellowship with one another!

A six-week series for men and women: C.S. Lewis: An Introduction to His Life and Writings
Brad Mercer

C.S. Lewis was one of the most influential Christian writers of the 20th century. His popularity and influence continue to be enormous. Lewis’s unique ability to unite heart and head in a comprehensive Christian worldview makes him a compelling and reliable guide to Christian faith and life. This class will offer a broad introduction to his life and writings. Session titles include “Who was C.S. Lewis?” “The Meaning of Life,” “Learning How to Learn,” “Loving One Another,” “Telling Stories,” and “Suffering, Hope, and Heaven.”

A six-week series for men and women: Philippians
Danny Ketchum

Although the search for tranquility is universal in our culture, lasting peace cannot be self-manufactured. Lasting peace with God only comes through an intimate relationship with Christ. Join us as we study Paul’s letter to the Philippians to learn the secret of true happiness, the man who learned this secret, and the Christ who taught this secret. This class is open to all.

A six-week series for men and women TGFC: The Gospel-focused Conversation - Evangelism Training
Joseph Wheat

Are you intimidated about sharing your faith? Is that fear of rejection? Or is some of it not knowing how to talk about Christ? It's a deep thing to discuss with someone! If you have felt these, you are in the vast majority of believers. So, are you evangelism “shy,” or evangelism “afraid” (or even “terrified!”)? It doesn’t have to be that way.  I will lead you in six sessions from fear to confidence in conversationally sharing the Faith. Come join us!

For women: "Lord, I Want to Know You" by Kay Arthur
Leigh Taylor & Olivia Strain

When we are in the midst of a spiritual struggle, we often fail to call upon God's provision, comfort and strength. In this insightful study of God's names, Kay will teach you how to call upon the names of God so that you can connect with your Protector in times of vulnerability, Healer in times of illness, and Provider in times of financial drought. Learn how to call upon specific names of the Lord who can provide for your every need.

For women: "Heaven Rules: Take Courage, Take Comfort, Our God Is in Control" by Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth
Sissy Jackson

Using the timeless book and example of Daniel as a guide, author Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth reveals how seeing our lives and world through the lens of Heaven's rule can shield us from panic and give us renewed hope and perspective. There will always be alarms screeching. But two simple words can quiet them, calm our fears, comfort our hearts, and give us courage to press on: Heaven Rules!
